NRV CARES Job Posting: Executive Director

About Us:  NRV CARES (New River Valley Child Advocacy, Resources, Education, and Services), a private, non-profit organization dedicated to protecting children and strengthening families.

NRV CARES services are available to all citizens living in the Virginia counties of Floyd, Giles, Montgomery, and Pulaski and the City of Radford. NRV CARES, with the help of the New River Valley community, strives to improve the lives of the smallest and most defenseless members of our society, while helping to support an environment where families can thrive.  Programs include CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of the New River Valley, Parent Education, and Community Education programs.  NRV CARES is an affiliate of Prevent Child Abuse Virginia and the National CASA Association.

With a staff of five, a committed volunteer base, and an annual budget of approximately $350,000, the Executive Director leads the organization by championing fundraising efforts and supporting effective programs. 

Position Description: The Executive Director is a salaried, exempt leader within this organization and is responsible for the development and ongoing operations of NRV CARES, assuring the organization meets our mission of protecting children from abuse and strengthening families through education, advocacy, and community partnerships.  The Executive Director is accountable to the Board of Directors and responsible to the families and agencies that NRV CARES serves.  This position directly supervises the Grant Specialist and Finance Director, Education Program Director, and CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Program Director. 

The successful candidate will be highly motivated, experienced in leadership and fundraising and will work with the staff, volunteers, and Board of Directors to expand and sustain our impact among families in the New River Valley.

 

Functions and Scope of the NRV CARES Executive Director

Leadership and Team Management

  • Provide general day-to-day agency oversight and stewardship.

  • Supervise staff development including recruiting, onboarding, staff performance reviews.

  • Participate in recruitment of new board members and their orientation.

  • Regularly meet with staff to foster a positive team environment and open communication.

  • Mediate conflict resolution as needed to ensure continued quality service provision and staff engagement.

Strategic Planning and Development

  • Oversee the development of and manage the operational budget, resources, and staff.

  • Increase local financial support of agency mission and programs, demonstrating philanthropic acumen for fundraising and grant writing.

  • Lead program development and regular evaluation.

  • Collaborate with Board of Directors and staff to continue work on identified Strategic Planning goals and to set a new Strategic Plan as needed.

  • Identify and collaborate with stakeholders among the communities served.

Community Engagement and Advocacy

  • Advocate for the NRV CARES mission and goals.

  • Represent NRV CARES at local and state agencies, and on committees and coalitions.

  • Support staff in efforts to engage in community outreach for Floyd, Giles, Montgomery and Pulaski counties and the City of Radford.

  • Support the success of programs by staffing vacancies as needed.

Compliance and Reporting

  • Maintain and review agency-required quantitative and qualitative data.

  • Provide accurate, comprehensive, and timely reports for grant application submission, board of directors and staff meetings.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree, five years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, and/or related relationship management field (human services or organizational leadership)

  • Demonstrated innovation to meet /exceed the community’s needs

  • Verbal, written, and technical skills (social media, website, and MS Office/Google Docs)

  • Experience with engaging with diverse communities and building positive relationships with stakeholders

  • Availability to work nights and weekends

  • Local, regional, and limited statewide travel required.  Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a dependable, insured vehicle.  Must be insurable through agency’s insurance.

  • Ability to pass background check per CASA regulations

Salary starting at $55,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
