Welcome! NRV CARES is pleased to welcome you to our new website.

NRV CARES is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to protecting children from
abuse and strengthening families through education, advocacy and community partnerships.
Our programs include:

NRV CASA  CASA of the New River Valley

CASA Court Appointed Special Advocates for children trains volunteers who are dedicated to advocating for safe, permanent homes for abused and neglected children who are involved in court proceedings.  The New River Valley is home to 25 trained CASA volunteers.  These volunteers are sworn officers of the court and act as the "eyes and ears" of the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court judges.

Parenting Young Children Courses using the Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP) curriculum for parents/caregives of children ages birth to 6 years.

Community Education Activities which include a variety of programs designed to address the issues of child abuse and neglect.  Community Presentations, projects in local schools and awareness campaigns are all part of the work of NRV CARES for children and families in the New River Valley.

The need for intervention for children continues to be significant.  In 2006-2007 in the New River Valley, there were 293 confirmed victims of child abuse and neglect.  NRV CARES strives to improve the lives of the smallest and most defenseless members of our society while helping to support an environment where families can thrive.

Thank you for visiting our site--and please contact us about our programs or to volunteer.  Thank you for your interest in the children and families of the New River Valley!
