CASA of the New River Valley
CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of the New River Valley, a program of NRV CARES, trains volunteers to advocate for children in court.

Parenting Young Children
Systematic Training for Effective Parenting curriculum (STEP) for parents/caregivers of children ages birth through 6 years.

Community Education
NRV CARES engages in many community initiatives that work to prevent child abuse and neglect before it occurs.

January 18 - CASA Legislative Day

This event is planned to organize staff and volunteers statewide to visit with their delegates and senators in Richmond with the purpose of educating them about the value of CASA to the state.

February 6 - CASA Training begins

Training for new CASA volunteers begins on Monday, February 6 ending on Saturday, March 10. Training is offered annually.

February 11 - NRV CARES 12th Annual Gala and Auction

NRV CARES signature annual fundraiser will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the Inn at Virginia Tech. Dinner, dancing and a live and silent auction—with Bill Roth “Voice of the Hokies” acting as the event’s honorary chair. Join us for this event that is one of NRV CARES annual highlights!

March TBD - 9th Annual Kappa Delta Shamrock Event

Since 2003, Virginia Tech’s Kappa Delta chapter held the annual 5KD Shamrock Event, a 5k run on Virginia Tech campus to support the prevention of child abuse.

NRV CARES’ “Long Lunch” is held in April for anyone who works with or cares about children. Invited speakers present on a range of topics of interest to those concerned about child welfare with a frequent focus on self-care for those who work in this field.
