CASA of the New River ValleyCASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of the New River Valley, a program of NRV CARES, trains volunteers to advocate for children in court.
Parenting Young Children Systematic Training for Effective Parenting curriculum (STEP) for parents/caregivers of children ages birth through 6 years.

Bev Walters, Executive Director
Bev has served in her current position with NRV CARES since 2005, having worked in the area of child abuse and neglect since 1998. A strong supporter of collaboration, Bev serves on the Smart Beginnings Leadership Council, the DePaul Community Advisory Board, and is a member of a workgroup for the Pulaski Commission on Children and Families. Her work in her professional life mirrors her personal passion: to educate and engage everyday people in creating a better life for children in the community. Bev and her husband, Jeff, live in Blacksburg where they raised their two children.
Mona Dollins DiGiulian, Grant Specialist/Finance Director
Mona has lived in the New River Valley for over 25 years, deciding to settle in the area after receiving two degrees from Virginia Tech. A longtime advocate for children and families, Mona first became affiliated with NRV CARES in 2002, when she joined the Board of Directors. Elected Board Chair in 2003, Mona served in this capacity until 2005. In 2006, Mona took a part time position with the agency and moved to full time status in her current position in 2007. Mona lives in Catawba with her husband, Tommy.
Keli Lichty, Education Program Director
Keli joined the NRV CARES team as the Education Program Director in October 2007. She is responsible for directing the Parenting Young Children Program as well as the Community Education Program. With strong ties to the New River Valley, Keli enjoys her work with families throughout the area. Keli believes that all children have the right to live in a safe nurturing environment and strives to ensure that through her work at NRV CARES.
Sherry Kramer, CASA Program Director
Sherry Kramer is a lifelong resident of the New River Valley. After graduating from Floyd County High, she received degrees from JMU and RU. Sherry began working as the CASA Volunteer Coordinator in 2006 and became CASA Program Director in 2008. Her goal is that every child who would benefit from an advocate will have one available. Sherry lives in Christiansburg with her husband and two teenagers.
